As we end another very challenging term, we watch the news with bated breath hoping that we don’t face another lockdown over Christmas. Latest figures are higher than at any point in the pandemic and so I hope that you all get to spend a safe and happy Christmas with your loved ones.
This term again has faced many disruptions through staff and student illness and it has been challenging for everyone involved to keep going. I would like to thank the students for being adaptable and again having spells working from home throughout the term. When we return you will have seen from the news that we have to complete Covid testing again. We have decided not to do a staggered return because students have missed so much already and so everyone will be in on Tuesday, the 4th of January 2022.
We have been working hard this term on developing “The Fowey Way”, a combined approach to rewarding students for positive outcomes and supporting students to make more positive choices. Both staff and students have been consulted and are supporting what should be a really positive way to start 2022. The rewards road map is ready to go on the first day back and we have also developed a set of expectations that cover life at Fowey. We have done this so that learning isn’t disrupted and all students are able to progress and enjoy school life without any barriers. This will ensure that students are smart, well prepared for learning and responsible and polite members of our community. In the first week back we will be introducing the changes through assemblies and tutor time so that students completely understand what we’re trying to achieve and why. We will also communicate all these details with you very clearly so that you can support us in making these improvements to our school.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to look at your child’s uniform over Christmas, details of what can and cannot be worn are shown on our website here: https://fracademy.org/uniform
Please remember to continue to test at home for COVID and follow the Government’s guidelines on social distancing and isolation. Please make sure students carry out an LFT the day before they return and tell us via covidalerts@fracademy.org if they have a positive result or symptoms and are awaiting results of a PCR test. Students will also be expected to wear a mask in school unless they are exempt. Any exemptions must be registered with the CGS team at the start of term, or by sending us an email to covidalerts@fracademy.org stating the reason for the exemption.
I hope that you all have a fantastic Christmas break and look forward to greeting all the students back on Tuesday, the 4th of January.
Best wishes
Ben Eddy
