Hall for Cornwall Partnership

We have had some incredible opportunities offered to us this term as part of our partnership with Hall for Cornwall.

Year 7 boys took part in a boys dance taster session with Rob Mennear, the creative director of All Boys Dance company. Textiles and Drama GCSE groups had top designers come into their lessons to provide inspiration about life as a costume designer. Fiona Chivers and Meier Williams both work as sought after costume designers and provided some hands-on design
challenges as well as clear ideas about careers pathways in costume design. Fiona Chivers also worked with GCSE art students and drama students on set design and gave our students a really specific but creative brief to get them to create work both practically and in scale.  A number of Yr 10 and 11 boys worked with spoken word artist MCMC (Meg Chapman) on writing and recording spoken word poetry, whilst the Yr 10

Music Btec students spent a couple of lessons with professional podcaster Rosie Kendrick on how to
create and record effective podcasts. Finally, a number of these professional artists have agreed to mentor our students in their future work as well as Hall for Cornwall providing work experience opportunities for some of our Yr 10 students this year in technical theatre.

Our Year 10 GCSE Drama students will be performing their own devised work at Hall for Cornwall in February – of which you will hear more of in the coming term. Key Stage 4 students are also being given the opportunity to watch the amazing Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at Hall for Cornwall in March.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunities this partnership has brought to Fowey River
Academy and we are looking forward to future events.
